The Machrie: Hotel & Golf Links, Isle of Islay, Scotland
Peter Young Design
The Machrie hotel and golf course takes its name from the Gaelic word Machair meaning ‘links’. First designed in 1891 by professional golfer Willie Campbell, it is set amongst the dunes and magnificent scenery of Laggan bay on the Isle of Islay, the southernmost of the Inner Hebrides islands off the west coast of Scotland, and is rated one of the top 100 golf courses in the world and renowned as one of the most beautiful.
Completed in 2018 the refurbished and extended hotel adds 18 rooms to the original 27, as well as 8 new lodges, a restaurant, terrace and bar, all with spectacular views over Laggan Bay.
The interiors by Peter Young Design, nicknamed ‘McScandi’ by the client and design team is a sublime balance of Scottish colours and textures with Scandinavian clean lines, offering guests a distinctly unique, sumptuously modern hotel experience suffused with the natural light and beauty of the Islay scenery.
