Brief

 

Develop an ultra low carbon three bedroom dwelling eco design proposal and subsequent detailed planning application for a circa 1980 steel portal frame barn set atop a Dorset greenbelt valley site with exceptional rural views.

Proposal

 

Structural straw bale / timber sub-frame using local straw, timber, stone and tin as well as clay directly from the site, featuring integrated solar panels, ground source heat pump, electric and heat battery storage and rainwater harvesting.

Construction

 

Wall and roof construction to be formed tight against and independent of the retained steel portal frame and set upon self draining locally sourced rubble filled trench foundations and earth filled bag perimeter plinth.

 

Finishes

 

Lime render to east & west gable end walls with European cedar vertical timber slat cladding south & north with wrap over standing seam tin roof with integral concealed guttering. And featuring unpainted refined site clay plastering to all internal walls.
